Weir S, et al. - This population-based study was designed to analyze the incidence and healthcare costs associated with persistent postoperative pain (PPP) following lumbar surgery. Accumulated data displayed that persistent pain affects more than one-in-five lumbar surgery patients and leads to substantial long-term healthcare costs. Hence, evidence-based guidelines were required for a coherent, coordinated management strategy for patients with continuing pain after lumbar surgery.
