The impact of workers' compensation on patient-reported outcomes measurement information system upper extremity and legacy outcome measures in patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair
Arthroscopy Oct 16, 2019
Beletsky A, Nwachukwu BU, Manderle BJ, et al. - One hundred twenty-two individuals (Workers' Compensation [WC, n = 32]; non-WC, n = 90) were involved in this study in order to investigate the preoperative performance of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) Upper Extremity (UE) Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) relative to legacy scores in individuals who got rotator cuff (third most prevalent cause of musculoskeletal disease, with incidence rates varying from 5% to 39% depending on age and genetic and biological factors) repair and to describe the influence of WC status on both performance and floor and ceiling impacts. In comparison with a non-WC cohort, significantly lower preoperative PROMIS UE CAT scores were noted in WC individuals. These patients were more inclined to report the absolute minimum and maximum scores for different patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), and for PROMs evaluating mental health, it illustrated relative floor and ceiling impacts. Furthermore, for the PROMIS UE CAT, the absence of important floor/ceiling influences may imply enhanced outcome differentiation and in WC individuals with rotator cuff pathology, it could promote the adoption of PROMIS UE for the evaluation of functional status.
