Kobayashi H, et al. - In a single-center retrospective cohort study, researchers assessed the effect of ventilator-associated events (VAEs) on clinical outcomes in critically ill subjects who needed mechanical ventilation for ≥ 4 d. They observed an association of a VAE, but not of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), with hospital mortality in critically ill subjects with prolonged mechanical ventilation.
