The impact of time to catheter removal on short-, intermediate- and long-term urinary continence after radical prostatectomy
World Journal of Urology Apr 04, 2018
Tilki D, et al. - The authors sought to evaluate the effect of prolonged catheterization time on 1-week (short-term), 3-month (intermediate-term) and 1-year (long-term) urinary continence (UC). They categorized the time to catheter removal into ≤ 7, 8–14 and 7 ≥ 15 days. Uni- and multivariable logistic regression analyses adjusted for age, BMI, prostate volume, pathological tumor stage, Charlson comorbidity index and nerve-sparing technique were performed to assess the effect of catheterization time on short-, intermediate- and long-term urinary incontinence (UI). Findings suggested that longer catheterization was related to worse short- and intermediate-term UC, nonetheless, it had no adverse effect on long-term UC.
