The impact of the largest national joint registry on current knee replacement longevity estimates: An analysis and review of knee prosthesis brand and fixation technique
Journal of Arthroplasty May 13, 2021
Rashed S, Lakhani S, Mann A, et al. - This study was undertaken to explore the impact of the largest national joint registry on current knee replacement longevity estimates. In this study, UK National Joint Registry 17 thth annual report was used to estimate pooled mean survival estimates of total knee replacements, unicondylar knee replacements (UKRs), and patellofemoral knee replacements at 10 and 15 years based on both construct brand and fixation technique (cemented vs uncemented). Researchers conducted independent T-testing for significance. For knee prosthesis survival, they provide more accurate estimations and indicate that younger patients, especially those receiving UKRs, are prone to greater revision risks. These findings also imply that uncemented fixation may offer improved joint survival in these patients.
