The impact of stool consistency on bowel movement satisfaction in patients with IBS-C or CIC treated with linaclotide or other medications: Real-world evidence from the CONTOR study
Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology Oct 16, 2019
Taylor DCA, Abel JL, Doshi JA, et al. - Via obtaining data from the Chronic Constipation and IBS-C Treatment and Outcomes Real-world Research Platform (CONTOR) study, researchers described the impact of stool consistency on patient-reported bowel movement (BM) satisfaction in patients with irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) or chronic idiopathic constipation, with a focus on linaclotide. In total, 2,922 baseline and 12-month 7-day diaries were gathered, of which 2,901 contained at least 1 assessment of BM satisfaction, 2,813 included at least 1 description of BM stool consistency, and 2,808 included at least 1 description of BM occurrence, satisfaction, and stool consistency. Overall, in comparison to HoLS, CONTOR candidates were more likely to report BMs rated as loose or watery stools (LoWS) or intermediate as satisfactory. Participants who took linaclotide were more likely to be satisfied than those who did not take linaclotide, especially those who recorded LoWS.
