The impact of sex and disease classification on patient-reported outcome measures in axial spondyloarthritis: A descriptive prospective cross-sectional study
Arthritis Research & Therapy Nov 07, 2019
Andreasen RA, Kristensen LE, Egstrup K, et al. - Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) patients were consecutively enrolled from two rheumatology outpatient university clinics in order to investigate the influence of gender and disease classification on outcomes in axSpA persons, including both radiographic (r-) axSpA and non-radiographic (nr-) axSpA, in males and females, respectively. In comparison with nr-axSpA individuals, persons with r-axSpA, irrespective of gender, seemed less influenced on most patient-reported outcome measures. Nonetheless, the female gender was related to a greater number of tender point count (TPC). Moreover, TPC could likely confound disease activity outcomes like Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index, and one could acknowledge various thresholds for defining high disease activity on the basis of the individual's gender.
