The impact of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels on allergic rhinitis
ENT Journal Oct 10, 2019
Çoban K, et al. - Among 86 patients with allergic rhinitis and 43 age- and gender-matched healthy volunteers, researchers explored the connection between allergic rhinitis and the serum levels of 25-hydroxivitamin D. The study sample consisted of allergic rhinitis patients diagnosed with allergy history, positive signs of allergy, blood samples, and positive skin prick tests; while the control group included age- and gender-matched healthy volunteers with negative skin prick tests. A total of 129 patients were enrolled who met the necessary criteria. In the allergic rhinitis group, a significant negative link was found between IgE and vitamin D levels. Findings suggest that patients with allergic rhinitis may be more vulnerable to lower vitamin D serum levels. Vitamin D supplementation can, therefore, be viewed as adjunctive therapy in these cases.
