The impact of right ventricular injury on the mortality in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Critical Care May 26, 2021
Sato R, Dugar S, Cheungpasitporn W, et al. - Researchers sought to determine how presence of right ventricular (RV) injury can influence mortality in patients suffering from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), via this systematic review and meta-analysis. Relevant studies were selected from Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. Overall 9 studies with 1861 patients were analyzed via meta-analysis. In 21.0% (391/1,861), presence of RV injury (RV dysfunction, RV dysfunction with hemodynamic compromise, RV failure, or acute cor-pulmonale) was found. Presence of RV injury was identified to be significantly related to increased overall as well as short-term mortality among patients experiencing ARDS.
