The impact of race, comorbid conditions and obesity on survival endpoints in women with high grade endometrial carcinoma

Gynecologic Oncology May 13, 2021

Fucinari J, Elshaikh MA, Ruterbusch JJ, et al. - Utilizing Kaplan Meier methods and Cox proportional hazards modelling, researchers estimated overall survival, disease-specific survival, and progression-free survival among high-grade endometrial carcinoma cases and determined factors affecting survival for non-Hispanic white and non-Hispanic black women. BMI and race interact and modify the relationship with high-grade endometrial carcinoma survival. Other potentially modifiable factors like reducing comorbidities and expanding access to guideline-concordant treatment, may improve survival after diagnosis of high-grade endometrial carcinomas. A deeper understanding of the molecular drivers of these aggressive tumors could lead to targeted therapies that reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with them.
