Gynecologic Oncology Jun 19, 2021

Yuan R, Zhang C, Li Q, et al. - Researchers conducted a meta-analysis examining the influence of marital status on the stage at diagnosis and survival of female patients with breast and gynecologic cancers. Performing a systematic literature search on Electronic databases (PubMed, Cochrane and EMBASE) till December 31, 2020, they identified 55 articles as eligible for inclusion, consisting of 1,195,773 female cancer patients with breast, vulvar, cervical, endometrial and ovarian cancers. Findings support the impact of marital status of female cancer patients on diagnostic timeliness and their prognosis; as evident by late stage at diagnosis and worse prognosis in unmarried female cancer patients. The unmarried female cancer patients with high levels of social support had worse survival outcomes than their married counterparts. From the perspective of public health, researchers suggest necessity for paying more health attention to unmarried women with cancer
