The impact of in-hospital complications on the long-term functional outcome of trauma patients: A multicenter study

Lee JM, et al. - Researchers examined how in-hospital complications influence the long-term functional outcome of trauma patients. Six to 12 months postinjury, they administered a validated trauma quality-of-life survey to 1,709 patients with an Injury Severity Score ≥ 9 admitted to 3, level I trauma centers between 2015 and 2017, to assess the presence of any functional limitation. of these, 1,022 completed the study. The analysis revealed a worse long-term functional outcome among trauma patients with in-hospital complications. Findings emphasize preventing primary complications and making more rehabilitation resources available to trauma patients who survive complications.
