The impact of high-intensity interval training on ventricular remodeling in patients with a recent acute myocardial infarction: A randomized training intervention pilot study
Clinical Cardiology Oct 18, 2019
Trachsel LD, David LP, Gayda M, et al. - Researchers undertook this pilot study to investigate how high-intensity interval training (HIIT) vs usual care influences ventricular remodeling in patients with a recent acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In this study, they randomized 19 post-AMI patients to either HIIT (n = 9) or usual care (n = 10). Prior to and following a 12-week training intervention, a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET), transthoracic echocardiography, and cardiac biomarker evaluation were carried out. Significant improvements in prognostic CPET parameters were evident in relation to HIIT vs usual care in post-AMI patients. Findings also revealed the relation of HIIT with favorable ventricular remodeling concerning certain echocardiographic parameters of left ventricular function.
