The impact of Helicobacter pylori eradication on platelet counts of adult patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura
BMC Hematology Sep 27, 2018
Aljarad S, et al. - In this prospective study of 50 patients with chronic idiopathic (immune) thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP; males=29 [58%]; females=21 [42%]), researchers analyzed platelet recovery after Helicobacter pylori eradication to determine whether H. pylori eradication has utility in raising platelet counts in this patient population. Infected patients were treated with triple therapy for 14 days, while no treatment was administered to uninfected patients. Findings revealed significantly increased platelet counts in association with H. pylori eradication in adult ITP patients. There was no association of patient sex and age with achieving response; however, Baseline platelet count and H. pylori infection were found to be related to achieving response.
