The impact of health insurance status on the stage of cervical cancer diagnosis at a tertiary care center in Massachusetts
Gynecologic Oncology May 20, 2018
Davis M, et al. - In this IRB approved retrospective cohort study, researchers assessed the influence of insurance status on the stage of cervical cancer diagnosed and treated at a tertiary care center, Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) between January 2011 and June 2016, in Massachusetts and reviewed the preceding screening history. Using SAS, statistical analysis was carried out. An increased risk of presenting with advanced stage cervical cancer was reported in patients with public issued insurance despite access to insurance. In an adjusted model, the persistence of the risk of being diagnosed with advanced stage disease was seen among women with public or no documented insurance. These data suggest that additional barriers to screening and prevention may exist.
