The impact of cirrhosis and MELD score on postoperative morbidity and mortality among patients selected for liver resection
American Journal of Surgery Jan 24, 2020
Zaydfudim VM, et al. - Researchers aimed at assessing if there are independent associations between chronic liver disease, MELD, and postoperative outcomes among patients selected for liver resection. They combined patient-level data from the targeted hepatectomy module and ACS NSQIP PUF during 2014–2015. Evaluation of 3,530 patients was done; of these, 668 patients (19%) had cirrhosis. The analysis revealed an independent negative effect of higher MELD and presence of cirrhosis on mortality after liver resection. Postoperative risk in patients with and without cirrhosis could be estimated using MELD.
