The impact of chronic pelvic ischemia on LUTS and urinary levels of neuro-inflammatory, inflammatory and oxidative stress markers in elderly men: A case-control study
Urology Sep 19, 2018
Antunes-Lopes T, et al. - In elderly men with chronic pelvic ischemia (CPI) due to significant aorto-iliac disease, authors gauged lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and urinary levels of neuro-inflammatory, inflammatory, and oxidative stress markers. Findings suggested an association of severe CPI in elderly men with a significant increase in LUTS and bladder neurogenic inflammation. This association was suggested by the increase of nerve growth factor release in urine, sensitizing bladder afferents. The relevance of ischemia in bladder function was confirmed in the findings and animal models of bilateral iliac artery occlusion were validated.
