The impact of central obesity on the risk of hospitalization or death due to heart failure in type 1 diabetes: A 16-year cohort study
Cardiovascular Diabetology Aug 01, 2021
Parente EB, Harjutsalo V, Forsblom C, et al. - Researchers sought to ascertain how body fat distribution influences the risk of heart failure hospitalization or death in adults suffering from type 1 diabetes at different stages of diabetic nephropathy. This analysis involved 4668 of 5401 adults with type 1 diabetes in the Finnish Diabetic Nephropathy Study. A median follow-up of 16.4 (IQR 12.4–18.5) years was performed which revealed the occurrence of 323 incident cases. Findings demonstrated an increased risk of heart failure hospitalization or death in relation to central obesity in adults with type 1 diabetes, and the results indicate the likely utility of waist-height ratio as a clinically valuable screening tool.
