The impact of anxiety and catastrophizing on interleukin-6 responses to acute painful stress
Journal of Pain Research Apr 05, 2018
Lazaridou A, et al. - The influence of anxiety and pain-related catastrophizing on the time course of acute interleukin-6 (IL-6) responses to standardized noxious stimulation have been investigated among patients with chronic pain. Researchers noted that catastrophizing may be linked with amplified proinflammatory responses under specific conditions (eg, application of a painful stressor) in these patients. Thereby suggesting the beneficial effect of psychosocial interventions that reduce negative pain-related cognitions on patients’ inflammatory profiles.
