Wakeham K, et al. – The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect on symptom burden for the year after anti–retroviral therapy (ART) initiation in individuals with a CD4 count <200 cells/uL in Uganda. Irrespective of the beneficial effect of ART on reducing symptoms, few patients continued to experience a high symptom burden. It was essential that HIV services in sub–Saharan Africa integrated the management of symptoms into their programmes.
