The impact of age on oral squamous cell carcinoma: A longitudinal cohort study of 2782 patients
Oral Diseases Jan 10, 2019
Xu Q, et al. - In this retrospective and prospective cohort, the authors analyzed 2782 candidates (diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma and treated surgically) to assess the influence of age on oral squamous cell carcinoma and also to analyze the reasons that may contribute to such variation. They divided the candidates into 3 groups viz, young age-group (≤40 years old), moderate age-group (41–75 years old), and advanced age-group (>75 years old). The younger candidates started consuming more tobacco and alcohol. They observed subjects with advanced age had worse consequences in the recurrence of disease and survival, both leading to more severe comorbidity and more conservative treatment experience.
