The impact of a lifestyle intervention on postpartum weight retention among at-risk Hispanic women
American Journal of Preventive Medicine May 28, 2021
Palnati M, Marcus BH, Pekow P, et al. - Among Hispanic women with abnormal glucose tolerance during pregnancy, it was inquired how postpartum weight retention could be impacted by a culturally modified, motivationally targeted, individually tailored intervention. Randomization of Hispanic females with blood glucose ≥ 140 mg/dL (7.77 mmol/L) on routine nonfasting oral glucose challenge test was done to a Lifestyle Intervention (n = 100) focusing on healthy exercise and diet or to a comparison Health and Wellness Intervention (n = 104) with no mention of exercise or diet behavior alterations. According to findings of this randomized trial involving Hispanic women, weight change pattern did not differ overall significantly between intervention arms. In both arms, greater weight loss was observed in relation to higher levels of self-reported physical activity.
