The impact of Aβ and tau on prospective cognitive decline in older individuals

Annals of Neurology Dec 20, 2018

Sperling RA, et al. - Authors studied 137 older subjects (age=76.3±6.22 years) who were undergone amyloid-beta (Aβ) and tau (18F-Flortaucipir) positron emission tomography (PET) with prospective neuropsychological evaluations following PET imaging, to estimate the relationship and intercommunication of Aβ and tau with prospective cognitive drop in normal aging and preclinical Alzheimer's disease (AD). They observed an association of raised levels of Aβ and tau with greater memory deterioration with no change in executive function. Elevated cortical Aβ was found correlated with higher tau levels but independent of age.
