The impact of 3 different distraction techniques on the pain and anxiety levels of children during venipuncture: A clinical trial
The Clinical Journal of Pain Jan 11, 2019
Inan G, et al. - In this randomized controlled trial conducted with 180 children of 6 to 10 years of age, researchers evaluated the effect of three different distraction methods on the pain and anxiety levels of children during venipuncture. They randomized the children into 4 groups; group 1 watched cartoon movies (CM), group 2 played video games (VG), group 3 were distracted by their parents’ verbal interactions (PI), whereas no distraction method was used in group 4 (control group). During the procedure of venipuncture in children, the distraction techniques of playing VG, watching CM, and PI appeared effective in reducing anxiety and pain perception. Playing VG seemed to be the most effective method.
