The immediate effects of a combined mass drug administration and indoor residual spraying campaign to accelerate progress towards malaria elimination in Grande-Anse, Haiti
The Journal of Infectious Diseases May 21, 2021
Druetz T, Stresman G, Ashton RA, et al. - This research was attempted to investigate the intervention effectiveness in reducing P. falciparum prevalence. Researchers designed an ecological quasi-experimental, using a pre- and post-test with a nonrandomized control group. The study included a sum of 10,006 participants. The campaign was effective in decreasing P. falciparum prevalence immediately after one round, despite a moderate coverage. The results showed that targeted mass drug administration and indoor residual spraying are beneficial in pre-elimination settings to rapidly decrease the parasite reservoir, an encouraging step to accelerate progress towards malaria elimination.
