The human ATF1 rs11169571 polymorphism associated with risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in Southern Chinese populations
Cancer Medicine Mar 28, 2019
Peng S, et al. - To explore the relationship between the human activating transcription factor 1 (ATF1) rs11169571 polymorphism and the risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) occurrence, researchers investigated the clinical samples of 560 cases and 661 controls from southern China. Between cases and controls, they noted a significant difference in allelic frequency and genotypes. They found a significant decrease in TC and CC genotypes in NPC cases vs the TT homozygote. They reported the -T allele presented a higher expression activity vs the -C allele in CNE2 cells and C666-1 cells (as revealed in Luciferase reporter activity). The -C allele vs the -T allele is a factor of decreased risk in NPC.
