Hayashi Y, et al. - A sum of 80 participants were examined to evaluate the risk of cardiac toxicity after chemoradiotherapy for superficial esophageal cancer between 2006 and 2014. Authors observed the 5-y overall and recurrence-free survival rates, 74.6 and 62.4%, respectively. They noted 34.6% of deaths caused by esophageal cancer. The level of the heart’s exposure to radiation was the significant risk factor for cardiac events post-chemoradiotherapy which was correlated with associated with the greater occurrence. They did not find any association of history of smoking, obesity, comorbidity, and history of cardiac disease with cardiac event occurrence post-chemoradiotherapy.
