The global burden of thyroid cancer and its attributable risk factor in 195 countries and territories: A systematic analysis for the global burden of disease study
Cancer Medicine May 28, 2021
Zhai M, Dan Zhang Jianhai Long, et al. - Trends of thyroid cancer and relationships with social development factors were explored by few studies. This study intended to evaluate the trend and relationship based on the global burden of disease (GBD). Researchers collected detailed data on thyroid cancer by using a GBD study. They used incidence, mortality, and DALY to evaluate epidemiological characteristics. They used age‐standardized rates and estimating the annual percentage change to calculate the trend. The results demonstrate that thyroid cancer is a public health problem worldwide. It has been considered that over‐diagnosis might be partly responsible for its rising trend. Furthermore, we should notice the risk factors of thyroid cancer. The data illustrate that more targeted measures should be formulated to improve potential environmental and lifestyle‐related factors which might contribute to the rising trend of thyroid cancer.
