The furosemide stress test for prediction of worsening acute kidney injury in critically ill patients: A multicenter, prospective, observational study
Journal of Critical Care Apr 15, 2019
Rewa OG, et al. - In this study including 92 critically ill patients, researchers validated the furosemide stress test (FST) for predicting the progression of acute kidney injury (AKI). Participants had stage I or II AKI and were administered FST (1 mg/kg for loop diuretic naïve patients and 1.5 mg/kg in patients previously exposed to loop diuretics). They measured subsequent urinary flow rate (UFR) and assessed predictive ability of urinary output by the area under the curve receiver operatic characteristics (AuROC). The progression to stage III AKI (primary outcome) and in-hospital mortality and adverse events (secondary outcomes) were assessed. Progression to stage III AKI in ICU patients without severe CKD with mild AKI was predicted by a UFR of < 200 mL in the first 2 hours following an FST.
