The Flooring for Injury Prevention (FLIP) study of compliant flooring for the prevention of fall-related injuries in long-term care: A randomized trial
PLoS Medicine Jun 30, 2019
Mackey DC, et al. - Through the first randomized trial—the Flooring for Injury Prevention study a 4-year—in 150 single-occupancy resident rooms at a single Canadian long-term care (LTC) site, researchers determined the clinical efficiency of compliant flooring at preventing serious fall-related injuries among LTC residents. In all, compliant flooring underneath hospital-grade vinyl was not effective at preventing serious fall-related injuries in LTC—a finding that did not align with results from previous retrospective and nonrandomized studies. The investigators suggested that future studies are warranted to determine effective methods for preventing fall-related injuries in LTC.
