The feature of clinical and radiographic outcomes in elderly patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy: A prospective cohort study on 1,025 patients
Spine Jun 05, 2018
Machino M, et al. - Among patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM), researchers evaluated how surgical outcomes differed between those who were nonelderly vs elderly. They also ascertained both the preoperative and postoperative residual symptoms in elderly patients. Compared to nonelderly patients, postoperative gait disturbance persisted more than other symptoms in elderly patients. Significantly lower JOA scores for bladder function were seen in elderly vs nonelderly patients. Findings suggested a gradual increase in the cervical lordosis in the neutral position with age. With increasing age, the total range of motion decreased.
