The feasibility of outpatient revision total knee arthroplasty in selected case scenarios
Journal of Arthroplasty Feb 21, 2020
Law JI, et al. - In order to investigate the safety of outpatient revision knee arthroplasty, this study a total of 102 patients (106 knees) who underwent revision knee arthroplasty at a free-standing ambulatory surgery center (ASC) between June 2013 and December 2018. The results showed that outpatient revision knee arthroplasty is safe in carefully selected individuals and case scenarios. The appearance of medical comorbidities was not correlated with the risk of complications. The paradigm shifts of individual education, medical optimization, and a multimodal program to mitigate the risk of blood loss and decrease the requirement for narcotics facilitate doing some revision arthroplasties safely in an outpatient setting.
