The factors influencing the unmet effects of alpha hydroxy acid peels on acne vulgaris: A single tertiary center experience

Dermatologic Therapy Apr 17, 2021

Tang J, Yang J, Zhang C, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers sought to determine the factors influencing the effects of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) peels for acne treatment. They selected patients diagnosed with acne who were intolerant to or refused the first‐line treatments from July 2017 to December 2019 at the hospital and retrospectively gathered the medical and demographic information of patients treated with a full course of AHA peels; data obtained comprised age, gender, treatment history, compliance status and efficacy after treatment. Multiple analyses confirmed that younger age and poor compliance had an effect on the unmet effect. Unsatisfactory compliance and age may reduce the effectiveness of AHA peels on acne.
