The evolving role of high‐frequency spinal cord stimulation as salvage therapy in neurostimulation
Pain Practice May 20, 2020
Ghosh PE, et al. - Given that traditional spinal cord stimulation (t‐SCS) often fails to provide long‐term relief in chronic neuropathic syndromes, researchers here examined if 10‐kHz spinal cord stimulation (10‐kHz SCS) could provide relief in the subset of patients who did not get adequate pain relief with prior t‐SCS devices. They performed a retrospective analysis reporting a single‐institution long‐term experience of 10‐kHz SCS in these patients. Among included patients, 31 patients underwent a trial of 10‐kHz SCS and 29 underwent implantation. Per outcomes, 10‐kHz SCS can result in clinically meaningful and durable pain relief in a significant proportion of patients with previously failed t‐SCS.
