The EpCAM overexpression is associated with clinicopathological significance and prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis
International Journal of Surgery Jun 27, 2018
Zhou L, et al. - The clinicopathological and prognostic role of epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was investigated via systematically searching PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE and SCOPUS databases. Researchers analyzed 16 studies recruiting 2,488 HCC patients in the meta-analysis and identified that, for overall survival and disease-free survival in HCC, high EpCAM expression was an unfavorable factor. In this work, the overexpression of EpCAM is correlated with the clinicopathological features of HCC, including poorer differentiation and high alpha-fetoprotein levels, as well as shorter overall survival and disease-free survival in these patients.
