The Emergency Department response to women experiencing intimate partner violence: Insights from interviews with clinicians in Australia
Academic Emergency Medicine Mar 31, 2019
Dawson AJ, et al. - Qualitative semistructured interviews and focus group discussions with 35 social workers, nurses, and doctors were estimated to study the clinical team response to females experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) in 2 large Australian metropolitan hospital Emergency Departments (EDs). They noticed that EDs were capable of providing caring environments for women experiencing IPV. They reported the probability of decreasing the necessity for formal screening tools because of active interprofessional teamwork across nursing, medical, and social work professionals. They suggested the improvement in staff understanding, reducing stigma, enhancement of appropriate treatment, and counseling the health professionals experiencing violence, with supportive workforce environments. Although, they implied the requirement to strengthen the staff training and advocacy as well as referral relationships with local programs.
