The elite young athlete: Strategies to ensure physical and emotional health
Open Access Journal of Sports Medicine Aug 09, 2017
Sabato TM, et al. – This paper appraised the risk of physical and psychological injury linked to the participation in elite youth sport. Strategies to ensure the physical and emotional health of these young athletes were put forth in this study. Evidence was obtained with regard to injury prevention studies of youth sports participants  with the inclusion of neuromuscular training, protective equipment, mental training to enhance self–esteem, and sport rules modification, which prevented injuries in elite youth sports settings. Regardless of not being tested, psychosocial prevention strategies such as adoption of task–oriented coping mechanisms, autonomous support from parents, and a proactive organizational approach illustrated promise in injury prevention.
