The elevated risk of ovarian clear cell carcinoma among Asian Pacific Islander women in the United States is not affected by birthplace
Gynecologic Oncology Feb 07, 2020
Korenaga TR, et al. - Researchers used 18 registries of the US Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) dataset, to investigate the incidence of ovarian clear cell cancer (OCCC) by race ethnicity, as well as to determine how that link was altered by birthplace among Asian Pacific Islanders (API). They found 72,501 women with epithelial ovarian cancer, among these, OCCC was present in 5,078 (7.0%) and 4,859 (6.7%) were API. Findings revealed a link of API ethnicity with an elevated risk of OCCC in the US. Place of birth did not seem to significantly alter the link, implying that acculturation or environmental exposure may not influence the increased risk of OCCC in API women.
