The efficacy of radiofrequency ablation vs cryoablation in the treatment of single hepatocellular carcinoma: A population‐based study
Cancer Medicine May 28, 2021
Chen L, Ren Y, Sun T, et al. - Researchers assessed the efficacy of cryoablation vs that of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in the treatment of single hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), in this retrospective analysis using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. To attenuate selection biases, a propensity score matching (PSM) model was applied. Prior to PSM, slightly longer median overall survival (mOS) and median cancer‐specific survival (mCSS) were noted in the RFA group vs those in the cryoablation group. Post-PSM, the RFA group had slightly better mOS and mCSS vs the cryoablation group but without significant differences. In the light of these observations, the non-inferiority of cryoablation to RFA therapy was concluded for single HCC patients without lymph node invasion or distant metastasis.
