The efficacy of memantine for the treatment of migraine: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies
Clinical Neuropharmacology May 18, 2021
Xu Z, Chen L, Jin S, et al. - Researchers investigated the impact of memantine vs placebo on treatment in migraine patients, via this systematic review and meta-analysis. They explored PubMed, EMbase, Web of science, EBSCO, and Cochrane library databases to identify randomized controlled trials examining the impact of memantine compared with placebo on treatment efficacy in migraine patients. In this meta-analysis, three randomized controlled trials were analyzed. Findings revealed substantially decreased monthly attack frequency, number of migraine days and Migraine Disability Assessment but no obvious impact on acute pain medications in migraine patients who were treated with memantine vs control group. Overall, it was concluded that memantine may afford a beneficial treatment option for migraine control.
