The efficacy of GlideScope videolaryngoscopy compared with direct laryngoscopy in children who are difficult to intubate: An analysis from the Paediatric Difficult Intubation Registry
British Journal of Anesthesia Oct 29, 2017
Park R, et al. - The use of direct laryngoscopy and GlideScope videolaryngoscopy was assessed in this present study, using data from the Paediatric Difficult Intubation Registry. Findings reported overuse of direct laryngoscopy in difficult to intubate pediatric populations, with a low chance of success with this technique. On the other hand, with low complication risk, GlideScope afforded a higher chance of success. However, among difficult to intubate population, GlideScope use had a lower success rate in children vs. adults. Notably, children weighing less than 10 kilograms had lower success rates with either device. Attempts should be minimized with either device to decrease complications.
