The efficacy and safety of insulin pump therapy with predictive low glucose suspend feature in decreasing hypoglycemia in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and meta‐analysis
Pediatric Diabetes Sep 18, 2020
Alotaibi A, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for systematically synthesizing the evidence on the effectiveness and safety of predictive low glucose suspend (PLGS) in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). They carried out a systematic search by Ovid/MEDLINE, Ovid/Embase, and other search engines. They involved randomized controlled trials assessing the effect of a sensor-augmented pump (SAP) with PLGS feature compared with SAP or insulin pump therapy without SAP in reducing hypoglycemia in children and adolescents aged 2 to 18 years with T1DM, with at least 2 weeks of follow‐up. Participants in the study were 493 children aged 6 to 18 years. Insufficient evidence existed for the effect of PLGS on health-related quality of life. In declining daytime and nocturnal hypoglycemia, PLGS is superior to SAP without increasing risk of diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperglycemia.
