The efficacy and safety of dexamethasone for pain management after total knee arthroplasty: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Li X, et al. - Researchers undertook a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the clinical outcomes of dexamethasone vs placebo for pain control in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA). They identified dexamethasone to be efficacious in decreasing pain scores within 48 h postoperatively. Furthermore, it was associated with significantly reduced narcotic consumption. In patients undergoing TKA, dexamethasone as an analgesic therapy seems to be a safe option.
