Spadaro S, et al. – This study inspected the effect of age of red blood cells (RBCs) transfused on the development of postoperative infections after noncardiac surgery. The data suggested that prolonged RBC storage time did not increase the risk of postoperative infection. Old blood transfusion appeared to raise wound infection rate and incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI).
