The effects of pelvic floor muscle therapy on symptoms, voiding, and pevic floor muscle activity parameters in children with overactive bladder

Neurourology and Urodynamics Apr 25, 2019

Pekbay Y, et al. - Investigators examined 3 children to research the effectiveness of biofeedback-assisted pelvic floor muscle therapy (PFMT) on symptoms, bladder capacity, uroflowmetry, and pelvic floor muscle activity (PFMA) in kids with resistant overactive bladder (OAB) or dysfunctional voiding (DV) with correlated seconder bladder overactivity (DV/SBO). They noted cure/improvement in urgency in 12 of 17 children in group-1 (pure OAB) and in 86% of kids in group-2 (with DV/SBO). Increases in maximum voided volume in the voiding diary from 81.6 to 150.9 mL in group-1 and from 115.6 to 175.7 mL in group-2 were observed. They also found that the mean rest value of PFMA decreased significantly whereas an increase was reported in the mean work value of PFMA.
