The effects of different types of nasal packing on odor function and mucociliary function after septum surgery
ENT Journal Sep 23, 2019
Caglar O, et al. - Among 60 patients with isolated septal deviation and 30 patients in the control group, researchers conducted this prospective clinical study to assess how the Merocel and nasal splint packing placed in the nose after septoplasty surgery influences the olfactory and mucociliary functions of the nose in the early period, and compare the two packing with each other. This investigation was carried out in a university hospital. Using SPSS Package Program version 20.0, data were analyzed. For this investigation, the nasal splint was inserted after septoplasty in group A (n = 30) and Merocel was inserted in group B (n = 30). According to findings, no complications (ie, postoperative bleeding, submucoperichondrial hematoma, or abscess formation) were observed in both groups. The odor test exhibited important distinctions between the two groups, which in the early period was statistically significant. Mucociliar function was better after surgery, but in the different nasal packing groups, there was no statistical difference.
