The effects of diet-induced weight loss on asthma control and quality of life in obese adults with asthma: A randomized controlled trial
Journal of Asthma Mar 29, 2019
Özbey U, et al. - A total of 55 obese individuals (BMI ≥ 30.0) with asthma were examined to determine how diet-induced weight loss influences asthma in these subjects. The participants were randomly assigned to the diet or control groups. At the baseline and at the end of the study, researchers recorded anthropometric measurements, asthma control test (ACT) scores, asthma quality of life questionnaire (AQLQ) scores, pulmonary function tests and daily food consumption of the participants. Values at both time points were compared. Compared with the control group, the diet group demonstrated significantly higher changes in body weight, ACT score and AQLQ score. In obese patients with controlled asthma, improved asthma control and quality of life were achieved with diet intervention.
