The effects of body mass index on pain control with liposomal bupivacaine in hip and knee arthroplasty

Campbell A, et al. - This inquiry was set up to determine the impact of BMI on early postoperative pain following total joint arthroplasty (TJA). Furthermore, obese versus non-obese patients were investigated for the impacts of standard liposomal bupivacaine (LB) dose. With initiation of LB, obese and non-obese patients experienced decreased narcotic requirement on postoperative days (POD)0 and POD1, while narcotic requirement on POD2 was found to be increased in all patients and was statistically and clinically significant in obese patients.
