The effects of an open-lung approach during one-lung ventilation on postoperative pulmonary complications and driving pressure: A descriptive, multicenter national study
Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia May 04, 2018
Belda J, et al. - Researchers determined the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) in patients in whom an individualized open-lung approach was applied during one-lung ventilation that consisted of an alveolar recruitment maneuver followed by a positive end-expiratory pressure adjusted to best respiratory system compliance. Preoperative and intraoperative data were documented. A description of the incidence of PPCs in these patients during the first 7 postoperative days was the primary outcome. Relative to the incidence of PPCs reported for other thoracic surgery series, a low incidence was noted in patients who underwent an open-lung approach during one-lung ventilation. Moreover, in these patients, the decrease in the driving pressure was also observed.
