The effectiveness of intradermal sterile water injection for low back pain in the emergency department: A prospective, randomized controlled study
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Jan 27, 2021
Tekin E, Gur A, Bayraktar M, et al. - Via performing a prospective randomized, unblinded, controlled clinical study on patients admitted to the emergency department (ED) for low back pain (LBP) of unclear chronicity, researchers compared the effectiveness of systemic treatment with intradermal sterile water injection (ISWI) treatment protocol combined with systemic therapy in these patients. Findings suggest higher effectiveness of ISWI treatment in relieving pain in the treatment of LBP than systemic therapy alone. In addition, patients in the ISWI group had decreased opioid consumption in the ED and analgesic consumption within 24 h after treatments. They observed patient satisfaction was statistically improved in the ED.
